BIOGRAPHY
Born in Providence, Rhode Island and trained at The National Ballet School, Greta Hodgkinson joined The National Ballet of Canada, where she has been a Principal Dancer since 1996. An artist acclaimed for her impeccable technique, delicate physicality and articulate characterization, she is a brilliant and versatile ballerina/actress. Ms. Hodgkinson has assumed every leading role in the classical repertoire and her talents extend to the contemporary repertoire as well. She has had numerous roles created for her by world renowned choreographers and has worked closely with such icons as William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Glen Tetley and John Neumeier.
As a guest artist, Ms. Hodgkinson has appeared with The Mariinsky Ballet (International Ballet Festival Mariinsky), Teatro alla Scala, The Australian Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Munich Ballet, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, at The State Kremlin Palace, Moscow, the Opening Gala of the Royal Opera House, London, the Gala des Etoiles, and International Ballet Galas in North America, Russia and Europe.
Ms Hodgkinson was invited to tour Japan dancing Swan Lake with K-Ballet, partnered by Tetsuya Kumakawa. She also performed at The World Ballet Festival in Tokyo with frequent partner Roberto Bolle. Her partners have included Carlos Acosta, Aleksandar Antonijevic, Marcelo Gomes, Massimo Murru, Rex Harrington, Laurent Hilaire, Federico Bonelli, Robert Tewsley, Zdenek Konvalina and Jason Reilly, among others. In addition, she has been nominated for the prestigious Benois de la Danse for her role as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake.
Recently, Ms. Hodgkinson made her singing debut as Anita in Jerome Robbins’ West Side Story Suite.
She appeared with Mr. Bolle in the holiday campaign for The Gap and was invited to perform with him at Salvatore Ferragamo’s 2008 fashion show in Shanghai.
Her film credits include the title role in the film Roxana, based on the novel by Daniel Defoe and directed by Moze Mossanen. She performed the title role in The Firebird, The Four Seasons (starring in Summer), A Dancer’s Story-50 Years of The National Ballet of Canada ( dancing The Sleeping Beauty pas de deux ), and also played a featured role in The Rings of Saturn.
Ms. Hodgkinson graced the covers of Dance Magazine and Dance International Magazine and has been featured in various fashion publications including; Vanity Fair, Lucky, W, GQ Italia, Elle, Flare and Fashion magazines. She has worked with such noted photographers as Michael Thompson, Febrizio Ferri, Howard Schatz, Nick Krasnaii, Christopher Wahl, Max Abadian, Cylla von Tiedemann and Sian Richards.
