BIOGRAFIA

Elena Lukom was born in St Petersburg in 1891. She graduated from the Imperial Ballet in 1909 (class of Fokine). She was promoted to soloist in 1912 and to ballerina in 1920. In 1910 she also danced with Diaghilev and she toured Europe 1922-23 with her partner Boris Sharov. Elena Lukom was an ethereal, fragile dancer with great charm and excellent technique. She created the Diva in Golden Age, Tao-Hoa in Lopukhov's Red Poppy and danced all the classical repertoire. She retired from the stage in 1941 and then was a teacher-repetiteur with the Kirov from 1953 to 1965. She is the author of My Work in Ballet (1940).
